Race report

Britcar 2027

Britcar has dropped the provisional eight-round calendar for the 2027 Endurance Championship, and from the driver's seat it looks like a brilliant mix of classic UK circuits and a return to legendary European tarmac. From a spring opener at Donington to a November night race at Brands Hatch, there is plenty to get excited about, even if the full Brands Hatch Grand Prix layout didn't quite make the cut. Alongside the calendar, Britcar has published its proposed class structure for 2027. For a team running a Ginetta G55, that document might be the bigger news of the two.

Spa plus three UK GP layouts

Donington GP twice, Silverstone GP in October and three days at Spa. The shorter Donington National and Silverstone International layouts are gone, so 2027 means more high-speed running than 2026.

Later and Front-Loaded

3 April to 13 November, three rounds in eight weeks

The season starts later and finishes later, but three of the eight rounds land by the end of May. Seats, budgets and partner deals need settling over the winter, not in the spring.

What stands out

Spa stays. Britcar took the championship to Spa-Francorchamps for the first time in 2026, with two one-hour races in late May. It is back in the same end-of-May slot for 2027. The Ardennes is the one weekend every driver circles first, and keeping it for a second year tells you the trip worked.

Silverstone goes Grand Prix. In 2026 the Silverstone round ran on the International layout. For 2027 it moves to the full GP circuit in late October. A longer lap, more time on the throttle and proper Grand Prix scale. It also gives us a good excuse to make the most of the Box3 residence at Escapade Silverstone for drivers, guests and partners.

Donington twice, both on the GP layout. The season opens on the Grand Prix circuit on 3 April, about two weeks later than the 2026 opener, and Donington comes back in September on the same layout. The National circuit drops off. We have unfinished business at Donington, so two goes at it suits us fine.

Snetterton twice. An April visit, then the Snetterton 300 at the end of August. Two chances on a circuit where straight-line speed and braking get properly tested.

Oulton moves to summer. Oulton Park was an April round in 2026. In 2027 it is the International layout on 17 July, which should mean warmer track temperatures and a better day out for guests.

The night race closes it out. Brands Hatch Indy remains the finale, now on 13 November and run as a night race. Short lap, close racing, headlights. There is no better way to end a season.

The one missing wish. If every driver in the paddock shares one gripe, it is that we are on the Indy loop at Brands rather than the full Grand Prix circuit. Hawthorns, Westfield and Dingle Dell in a GT car is the dream. That said, a night race on the tight, punchy Indy layout in November means non-stop traffic, plenty of drama and a fitting finale.

The shape of the year. Three rounds land in the first eight weeks (April to the end of May), then there is a seven-week gap before Oulton, and the back half runs roughly monthly from late August to mid-November. For anyone planning a programme, budget or a hospitality day, that early block is where commitments need to be made over the winter.

Why the Ginetta class matters to us

We race a Ginetta G55 in the GT class. That has meant sharing a class with very different machinery, and anyone who has chased a BMW down a long straight in a G55 knows the Ginetta makes its time in the corners, not on the straights. Balance of Performance across different cars and different philosophies is hard to get right.

A dedicated G55 class changes the question. Instead of balancing a Ginetta against a BMW or a McLaren, Britcar will be balancing G55 against G55, using weight, power and pitstop length to level out the different specifications. On paper, that is a class built for cars like ours, and for close, wheel-to-wheel endurance racing where the result comes down to drivers, strategy and pit work.

A clear Ginetta ladder

The Trophy class keeps a home for the Ginetta GTA. Put that next to the new G55 class and Britcar now has a clear step-up path inside one championship: start in a GTA in Trophy, learn endurance racing, then move into a G55 when you are ready for more performance. That is exactly the kind of route we want to offer drivers coming to Box3.

The Cayman class

The Cayman class is the other new arrival, using a cut-down version of the original Porsche Sprint Challenge regulations to keep running costs low and performance closely controlled. For drivers who have done track days or coaching in a Cayman and want to go racing, it is a natural entry point.

Proposed, not final

Britcar is clear that this is a proposed structure. If you have questions about your car's eligibility, Britcar asks for queries to go to david@britcar-endurance.com or 01428 288008.

What's next for Box3

We will be going through the calendar and the class proposals in detail over the winter and lining up the 2027 programme around them. If you want to be part of it, there are three ways in:

  • Drive with us. Seats, test days and a Ginetta pathway from GTA to G55. Start with Driver Development.

  • Partner with us. Eight rounds, one of them at Spa and one under the lights at Brands Hatch. See Partners.

  • Join us trackside. Hospitality at any round, including Silverstone GP with accommodation at Escapade Silverstone.
